Art and More Art

So my paintings didn't win any ribbons at the fair this year (booo!) but they were finalists of a sort. Since it was a juried show, the judges picked what paintings would be displayed in the gallery and which ones wouldn't. Two of my three paintings (the cat face and the big purple dahlia) were chosen to be in the main gallery. (WOO!) They didn't sell either but that's okay :)
My next artistic venture is tomorrow. Back in April, I was chosen, along with fourteen other artists, to do a paint out at the Indianapolis zoo and gardens. The painting I did (a pink orchid) was framed by the zoo and put on display at the gardens for the summer. Now that summer's almost over, the paintings are sold at silent auction. As the artist, I get to go to the reception and bring a guest (Mom got dibs :P )
The thought of small talk is killing me already but other than that, I'm really excited to go to my first reception!
Now that I have no art deadlines to meet, I've just been playing around and it's SO NICE. Recent themes that have caught my attention are...cupcakes...for some odd reason. Both of these paintings are the same size as a playing card and I LOVED working on them....even though I couldn't eat them.
I've also started dabbling in writing again after a VERY long hiatus over the summer. There are two short story contests that I'd like to enter and both deadlines are in the first week of September. Even if I don't make the deadlines, the point is to get me writing and it's done that, thank goodness.
That's all the fun stuff. I'm *SUPPOSED* to be doing homework...but that's not happening. >:}

Date: 2012-08-23 04:50 pm (UTC)The cupcakes are rocking! I love that you can see the texture on the colour card. What mediums are you using? The shading on the swirls is SO GOOD. I want to stick my finger in the icing. :p
Also really good to hear you're writing. \o/ I can hold out hope for something Mag7, right? RIGHT? If not I'll see you soon when we get our art assignments for the Big Bang. Please keep us posted on your stuff!

Date: 2012-08-23 06:33 pm (UTC)Thank you! The pink cupcake is in watercolor and the black and white cupcake was done with graphite pencils (I LURVES my pencils!)
The swirls are the toughest part. I literally get lost going around and around and I don't know where I am on the drawing!
Yes yes absolutely!! I have one story I started earlier this summer then got stuck and stopped. I REALLY want to drag it out and polish it up.
I also want to try some Mag7 portraits. That would be lovely ^_^
